
Spanakopita Christmas Tree Recipe

Feeling festive? This delicious Greek spanakopita recipe makes a perfect table centrepiece during the festive season. This recipe explains how to make a Spanakopita Christmas Tree.
Christmas Spanakopita Ingredients

2 sheets of puff pastry
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 2 tablespoon(s) olive oil
- 1 onion
- 5 shallots
- 1 kilo spinach
- Oregano
- Lemon zest of 1 lemon
- 500g feta cheese
- 200g parmesan
- Kostas Flower of Salt
- Pepper
How to Make a Christmas Tree Spanakopita
- Place a nonstick pan over medium to high heat.
- Add a little olive oil and the shallots and onions.
- Sauté until they soften.
- Add spinach and a pinch of Flower of Salt to the pan.
- Sauté until it softens and then drain excess water in a colander.
- Transfer to a bowl and mix in parmesan, feta, oregano, Kostas Flower of Salt and black pepper.
- Stir and your filling is ready!
- Put 1 of the pastry sheets down and brush with butter
- Preheat oven to 190* C fan.
- Spread out the filling evenly onto the dough and place the other pastry sheet on top of it.
- Cut the shape of an Christmas tree. (2 lines at the base for the trunk and then a triangle on top.)
- Score the tree up the edge triangle to the middle on each side leaving a strip the thickness for the trunk running up the centre of the tree.
- Twist each branch on both sides of the christmas tree.
- Place a dried cranberry on the end of each branch.
- Grate more parmesan on top to look like snow.
- Brush the pastry top with egg wash.
- Bake in the over for 30-40 mins – keep an eye on it and take it out once it is golden brown.
- Season with Kostas Flower of Salt as required.
